From Volume 7 (2016) onwards, all articles published in Ruhuna Journal of Science are Open Access articles published under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0 International License. This License permits use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited and is not used for commercial purposes.

Guidelines for manuscript preparation for the initial submission and review process.

Use Times font size 12, 1.5 line space, unless specified otherwise. After peer review and acceptance, authors will be requested to format the paper according to the template provided separately. Please send the non-pdf version of your manuscript (doc, docx).

Title:Insert the title, which can have maximum 100 characters with spaces (times font 14)
    X. Author 1 and Y. Author 2
    1 Full affiliation X,2 Full affiliation Y

    Abstract.

The abstract should summarize the contents of the paper and should contain at least 100 and no more than 250 words.

    Keywords.

List max of 5 keywords in this section; keywords help to locate your paper in search engines; list with an order from broader to specific keywords. Avoid words in the title.

    Author Contributions.
This is a compulsory statement. State contribution of all authors (contributions to the conception and design, acquisition of data, analysis, and interpretation of data, drafting the article, revising it critically for important inclusions etc.). The corresponding author must ensure that all authors have read and consented to the content of the manuscript being submitted.

  2. Main text

    • Title of the paper (Please do not include author names/ or affiliations).

    • Abstract (100% identical to the one given on the title page)

    • Text body:Following are just general section guidelines but authors may form sections in an appropriate manner to the work being reported (esp. for theoretical/ Mathematical papers):

      1. Introduction

      2. Material and Methods / OR / Statement of Main Results, Definitions etc.

      3. Results / OR / Proofs

      4. Discussion

      5. Acknowledgements

      6. References

*Please insert the tables and figures at relevant places within the text body.
*Follow the citation format for different publication categories as appeared in a published article of the journal.
  3. Supplementary Material
Supplementary Information (SI) is peer-reviewed material directly relevant to the conclusion of a paper that cannot be included in the printed version for reasons of space or medium (for example, video clips or sound files). SI is not subedited so authors should ensure that it is clearly and succinctly presented, and that the style of terms conforms with the rest of the paper. During SI processing for online publication, a standard coversheet will be added to the main SI PDF but the contents will remain unchanged.

We recommend that SI in the following five 'flat' (text or table) categories is combined into a single PDF, laid out as you wish readers, editors and peer-reviewers to download it:

    • Supplementary Methods

    • Supplementary Table(s)

    • Supplementary Discussion

    • Supplementary Equation(s)

    • Supplementary Notes (including notes clarifying statistical analyses, acknowledgements, grant or other numbers).

Some types of SI (listed below) are either best presented in editable format or cannot be presented as PDF for technical reasons.
Please supply these types of SI in one of our allowable formats. They will be published with the PDF of the rest of your SI, downloadable as separate files.

    • Supplementary Data

    • Supplementary Computer programs

    • Supplementary Video(s)

    • Supplementary Audio(s)

    • Supplementary Video and Audio Legend(s) (please provide legends in a separate editable document)

    • Supplementary tables must have a separate numbering system from that used for tables in the print version of the paper and the Extended Data (the first table displayed in SI should be labelled 'Supplementary Table 1' and so on).

  4. Author Decleration

With each submission, the following declaration should be sent separately to editor_RJS@sci.ruh.ac.lk (filled and signed by the lead/ or corresponding author of the paper). Please attach a scanned copy of the signed document. Until this document is received by the editor, processing will not be commenced.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format (not in pdf).
  3. Citations are given in the text within parenthesis (not by numbers), and References are listed alphabetically at the end of the text. Where available, DOI's for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is 1.5 line-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in guidelines under the menu 'About' the Journal.
  6. Corresponding author's ORCID iD is supplied (to obtain a free ORCID, visit https://orcid.org/). ORCID iD of the corresponding author will be displayed on the PDFs of the articles published in RJS.
  7. Signed 'Author declaration' is sent to the editor_RJS@sci.ruh.ac.lk (see guidelines, item number 3). In case of multiple authors- manuscript, a statement of contributions to the manuscript is included on the title page.
  8. Supplementary Material: Please read the section under the guidelines. Note that the RJS highly encourages and recommends the authors to share the data and computer codes for replicability and reproducibility of our research papers which should be available to peers who wish to validate the techniques and results.
As such, our editorial policy would prioritize the requirement for sharing to facilitate unrestricted utilization, paralleling our existing practice (to the extent feasible) with data and research materials.
