First Record of Western Reef-Heron Breeding on India’s South-West Coast
The cover shows a pair of Western Reef-Herons (Egretta gularis) nesting on a coastal tree. Typically breeding along the north-western coastline, this observation marks the first recorded nesting of the species in this region. The study documents the white morph pair raising three hatchlings within an urban multi-species heronry — an uncommon inland breeding behaviour for this predominantly coastal bird. The finding highlights the ecological value of urban green spaces as refuges for waterbird conservation. Cover image was generated by OpenAI based on the images in the article.
